We have made a clarification regarding desktops and all-in-one PCs that are using Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes for their mobile platform CPUs. These parts are now excluded from the list of critical components.

Due to mobile platforms being smaller in size and PCBs more densely populated, the use of SMT processes are widely adopted within the industry. Smaller form factor desktops and all-in-one PCs may use the same platform as their mobile counterparts. Therefore, a clarification of criterion 6.2, replaceable components for these product categories is needed.

The clarification for this criterion is as follows:

  • CPUs marketed and sold as “mobile” CPUs by the component manufacturer are excluded as a critical component for the product.
    • Compliance is verified by providing a specification from the component manufacturer, which states the vertical segment and the platform type of the CPU.
