As part of criterion 3.2 (renewable energy) in TCO Certified, generation 10, brand owners must report their use and purchase of renewable energy in final assembly factories. Reporting is due by 31 August 2025 and we encourage you to start preparing for this now.
The report submitted by August 2025 must cover the calendar year 2024. Since no generation 10 certificates were valid before 4 December, the requirement of 15% renewable energy does not apply for 2024. However, reporting remains mandatory.
Criterion 3.2 states that for each final assembly factory, reporting must prove:
- the total electricity used (MWh)
- the total renewable electricity ratio for the whole factory (%)
- the renewable electricity ratio for the brand owner’s manufacturing of certified
- products at the factory (%)
Renewable energy reporting can be conducted for either the entire factory or specifically for the brand owners’ manufacturing operations. A brand’s share of the factory’s energy consumption is determined by its revenue or manufacturing volume.
Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) are valid up to three months before purchase and six months after purchase. This means that EACs issued from June 2023 to March 2025 can be used to report consumption in 2024.
