Two flame retardants have been removed from TCO Certified Accepted Substance List due to expired GreenScreen hazard assessments and benchmark scores, and a plasticizer risks being removed from the list after a peer review conflict resolution.

These two flame retardants are removed from TCO Certified Accepted Substance List due to the GreenScreen hazard assessments and resulting benchmark scores having expired and therefore no longer being valid. This means that these chemicals are restricted from use in products certified according to TCO Certified. Suppliers wishing to see the return of these chemicals to TCO Certified Accepted Substance List must submit a valid GreenScreen® assessment report to TCO Development.

  • Flame retardant Polyphosphonate-co-carbonate CAS# 77226-90-5 has reached the sunset date and was removed February 28, 2020.

For this plasticiser Clean Production Action initiated a conflict resolution process because two different Licensed GreenScreen Profilers assessed the same chemical and came to different conclusions. Working with an external expert panel and the Profilers, the harmonized Benchmark score for this plasticizer was determined to be Benchmark-U due to insufficient information to classify the carcinogenicity endpoint. A hazard classification for carcinogenicity is required for a chemical to be assigned a Benchmark-2. The Benchmark 2 score is removed and a 12 month sunset date has been set for the complete removal of the plasticiser from TCO Certified Accepted Substance List. Only GreenScreen Benchmark 2, 3 or 4 are accepted.
