In December, we’re publishing criteria for data centers. From today and until mid-November, the drafts are open for stakeholder comment.
The environmental impact of data usage is growing fast. As with other IT products, data center products also have an adverse effect on human health throughout the supply chain. To help tackle these problems, TCO Certified will be expanded to include network equipment, data storage products and servers.
These three new product categories will be added to the most recent generation of TCO Certified — generation 8. It is the most ambitious generation to date, encouraging a circular approach to the production and consumption of IT products by demanding durable products that can be repaired, upgraded and recycled. Criteria for supply chain responsibility are sharper, and follow-up more thorough. TCO Certified, generation 8 is also designed to help organizations contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Next steps and timeline
September 12: The drafts are released, and open for comment. Drafts contain criteria and product definitions, including test and verification methods.
November 12: Last day to contribute with your comments.
November 13-December 11: Review of all comments. Any adjustments to the criteria documents are made.
December 12: TCO Certified, generation 8 for network equipment, data storage and servers will be published. From the release date, brand owners can apply for product certification and purchasers can ask for TCO Certified in the procurement of data centers.
Spring 2020: Launch of TCO Certified, generation 8, for data center products! The first certified products on the market are announced.
