EU States to use TCO Certified to make socially and environmentally responsible IT product choices
Earlier this year the EU Parliament adopted a new public procurement directive. The directive makes it easier for purchasing contracts – including those for IT products - to include requirements for social and environmental responsibility from electronics manufacturers. Member countries have until 2016 to implement the new directive.

Statement from TCO Development – Apple leaves EPEAT
The fact that Apple is leaving the EPEAT register because their products can’t be recycled in a way that is environmentally acceptable is one example. Nevertheless the IT-industry needs to take measures. To produce one computer uses about 1.500 kg of water, human rights are violated in the production, the level and handling of the world’s e-waste can’t be neglected. It is a good sign that Apple is sincere and withdraws the products from the EPEAT registration when they can’t meet the standards.
New Brazilian TCO Certified product increases choices for IT buyers
IT purchasers in Brazil will now have more TCO Certified products to choose from, following the announcement that the leading local PC brand, Positivo Informatica, has introduced its first TCO Certified display – the Positivo FIT 8510 - to the market.
