This shared sustainability challenge is why we’re announcing the TCO Certified Purchaser Advisory Forum. Continuing on from our ongoing dialogs with IT purchasers around the world, the forum will be a community committed to a more sustainable IT ecosystem.

Terms and conditions

Who can join

Any organization that specifies TCO Certified in their IT procurement, policy or guidance can apply to join the TCO Certified Purchaser Advisory Forum. Once approved, up to two (2) people from your organization can participate in the forum. There are several ways you can qualify to join:

  • Use of TCO Certified in procurement, such as a policy, product specification or tender documentation used by your organization.
  • IT hardware procurement guidance that specifies or recommends using TCO Certified in procurement, published by the organization.
  • Nomination by TCO Development, due to specialist experience or relevant expertise.
Member commitments

As a member of TCO Certified Purchaser Advisory Forum, members agree to:

  • Participate as a representative of their organization, which uses TCO Certified in IT procurement specifications or policy.
  • Engage in forum activities in good faith.
  • Participate with the intention to support the ongoing work of TCO Development and contribute to sustainability progress in IT.
  • Respond to requests for comment, feedback on criteria etc (estimated 1-2 times per year).
  • Maintain respect in all dialogs. Disagree without being disagreeable.
  • Adhere to Chatham House Rules.
  • Be mindful of antitrust considerations.

What will the forum do?

The goal of the forum is to work together on targeting the big shifts in sustainable IT. The forum will offer opportunities to:

  • Consult with IT procurement leaders on solving key sustainability issues connected to IT
  • Contribute to upcoming criteria, tools and services connected to TCO Certified
  • Collaborate with peers and subject matter experts

The forum will meet digitally 2-3 times per year to discuss and consult on key issues such as circularity, hazardous substances, supply chain responsibility and climate impact.

Forum events will mostly be in the form of webinars, workshops, topical discussions and consultation sessions. In addition, we may from time to time, seek input via surveys, live polls or consultations that dig deeper into a particular topic.

IT procurement has a direct and powerful influence on the life cycle of electronics – from product design through supply chain responsibility, use and recovery – all essential to reducing the climate impacts of technology. As a user of TCO Certified, your voice is also vital in supporting the development of criteria and tools that address critical sustainability hot spots and that best support your sustainability goals.

Have your say as we further develop criteria, tools and services. Get answers straight from the experts, interact with your peers and be part of initiatives for achieving some of technology’s biggest sustainability challenges.

Forum structure

  • TCO Certified Purchaser Advisory Forum is an advisory body. While the forum contributes valuable input and knowledge to criteria and initiatives at TCO Development, it has no voting structure or decision-making authority.

  • The number of members is not limited and there are no term limits to membership. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

  • A maximum of two (2) members per organization is permitted.

  • Participation is voluntary and unpaid.

  • In the event that an individual member changes role or leaves the organization, they may nominate a replacement member from within their organization.
