Our TCO Certified Edge, E-waste Compensated initiative has received the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC) prestigious Supplier Leadership Award for 2020.
SPLC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and recognize purchasing leadership that accelerates the transition to a prosperous and sustainable future. SPLC members drive sustainability through their procurement practices and represent over $300 billion in purchasing power. Each year, SPLC recognizes outstanding achievements that support this mission.
This year, the SPLC judging panel awarded our TCO Certified Edge, E-waste Compensated program with the 2020 Supplier Leadership Award at a virtual ceremony on January 28th. The award recognizes innovation in delivering solutions that help purchasing organizations increase their sustainability impact.
E-waste is an enormous human health and environmental problem. When not handled in a responsible manner, hazardous substances may be released into the environment and potentially end up in our food and water supply.
Purchasing organizations now have a way to take responsibility for the e-waste they generate. When buying an IT product certified according to the TCO Certified Edge criterion, E-waste Compensated, this sets off a process where an equivalent amount of e-waste is collected in a country where safe recycling systems are lacking. The environment, and vulnerable communities are thereby protected from hazardous substances and fair job opportunities are created locally. The collected e-waste is then transported to a recycling plant compliant with strict environmental criteria.
We know that market demand is an important driver of IT industry action. As a buyer, you can leverage your purchasing power to drive the industry in a more sustainable direction. Sign our pledge so we can deliver this message to IT brands to encourage them to make more sustainable, e-waste compensated products available on the market.
