TCO Certified, generation 8 marks a major step forward in several areas. With several new and updated criteria, this generation aims to drive progress in supply chain responsibility and transparency as well as taking a more circular approach to IT products by extending their usable lifetime and promoting re-use.
A new generation of TCO Certified is released every three years. When a new generation is launched, products can no longer be certified to the previous generation.
The criteria 1.3 has been further developed during the draft period of TCO Certified, generation 8. It now includes a number of questions for data gathering, making it possible to measure today’s IT products towards tomorrow’s sustainability criteria.
Many thanks to all who attended our workshops and webinars about the draft TCO Certified, generation 8, as well as for all your comments. We’re currently reviewing all comments and finalizing the criteria for release in early September.
With the next generation TCO Certified, we're taking a major step toward a sustainable life cycle for electronics. As you can see in the criteria draft, TCO Certified, generation 8 will focus on further building transparency and responsibility in supply chain, material use and product life. With leadership criteria and independent verification as the backbone of TCO Certified, purchasers, brands and suppliers will have a tool they can trust and stand behind.
A final reminder to submit your comments to the criteria draft for TCO Certiifed, generation 8, before the May 31 deadline. All comments will be handled directly by our team. During the June-August time frame, we will evaluate all comments and make any necessary adjustments to the criteria, compliance or verification methods
